DESCRIPTION:As part of Warrington Arts Festival 2026, enjoy a tale about a wandering storyteller who arrives with a trunk full of forgotten objects, bringing to life the extraordinary true story of Old Billy – the world’s longest-living horse – who worked through the age of canals and industry in the north of England.\nBlending history, folklore, puppetry and a bit of mischief, we’ll explore the world he inhabited.\nWho is Old Billy?\nOld Billy was no ordinary horse! He holds the amazing record as the longest-living horse, living to the grand old age of 62 – that’s nearly three times longer than most horses.\nBilly was alive during the Industrial Revolution, a time when horses were an important part of the workforce, powering machines, carrying heavy equipment and transporting goods across the country. We know Billy worked as a Barge Horse and an Engine Horse!\nThere were so many animals working at this time, but it’s Billy’s extraordinary lifespan that has secured his place in history.\nJoin storyteller and theatre maker Rachel Priest on a playful journey to discover Old Billy’s amazing story.\nFollowing the performance, you are invited to take part in Horse Brass crafts and explore the museum on the Old Billy trail.\nPerformances are at 10.30am and 1.30pm and aimed at 6-11-year-olds and their grown-ups.
