SUMMARY:Roots and Reflections: A Journey Through Black British History
DESCRIPTION:Warrington Museum & Art Gallery will host Roots and Reflections: A Journey Through Black British History, an exhibition in celebration of Black History Month.\nOpening on October 12th and running until January 5th, the exhibition showcases artwork from 600 local schoolchildren who participated in a series of workshops focused on the contributions of Black British figures to society.\nLed by artist Tina Ramos Ekongo, the workshops took place across nine Warrington schools, engaging children from early years to age 11. The students explored the impact of influential Black figures, from historical icons like Olaudah Equiano and Ira Aldridge to contemporary cultural leaders like Stormzy and Letitia Wright. The children’s creative responses to these figures have been turned into a collection of art, now set to be displayed at Warrington Museum.\nTina, who has lived in Warrington for several years, said: “It’s been fantastic to see how children respond to learning about Black history. They’re curious, open-minded, and eager to embrace new perspectives.”\nFunded by Arts Council England, the exhibition offers a chance to see Black history through the eyes of local young people.
