An evening of Jazz with Les Chisnall and Iain Dixon – Warrington Concert Series

A brand-new music event is set to grace Warrington town centre this Spring, with the aim to ignite a passion for live classical and jazz music among the community.

From May 30th to June 3rd 2024, Warrington Concert Series (WCS) will debut a series of classical and jazz concerts in Warrington. Combining top-tier performances with accessible ticket prices, WCS is dedicated to ensuring that the beauty of live classical music is accessible to all members of our community, regardless of their familiarity with the genre.

Join us on Friday evening at Warrington Concert Series for an evening of Jazz with piano and clarinet duo, Les Chisnall and Iain Dixon.

Meet the Musicians:

Les Chisnall has worked with some of the worlds finest Jazz musicians, including Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Mike Walker & Ian Ballamy to name but a few. Recent projects have included an album with Neil Yates ‘New Origins’. Throughout his career composition has been central to his musical life, especially in the contemporary classical field. Having studied composition with Paul Mitchel-Davidson and Bill Connor, Les has written music for orchestra, piano, organ and particularly for choir which has always been a natural medium for him since his days as a chorister. Parallel to his career as a Jazz pianist and composer Les has been an active teacher for the past 17 years. His currently teaches at Chetham’s School of Music and LIPA.

Iain Dixon began his professional career with the BBC Big Band, where he stayed for eight years before becoming a freelance player on the London music scene. He has played both in the UK and internationally as a member of jazz groups led by Julian Arguelles, Nikki Iles, Dave Green, Mike Walker, Alan Barnes, Charlie Watts, Dave Newton and Clarke Tracey, as well as leading his own bands. As a session player, Iain has appeared on many albums with artists as diverse as Mark Hollis, Joni Mitchell, Primal Scream and the Spice Girls, and has been a featured soloist on numerous film soundtracks including The Talented Mr Ripley. Following a UK tour with Michael Brecker, Iain was invited to New York in 2003 to record the album Wide Angles. As a member of Bryan Ferry’s band for over ten years, Iain has completed three world tours and numerous album recordings. He currently teaches jazz improvisation at Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music.
