Culture Warrington – Pride Activities
Warrington Pride is coming and we have listened!
Over the past few months we have consulted with our communties to recognise the value that LGBTQ+ experiences bring to culture and arts across Warrington. You said it was important to provide commission opportunities for LGBTQ+ people across Warrington, provide quieter spaces to reflect and connect, and to recognise intergenerational experiences.
Removing barriers of cost, recognising local stories, and creating more of an atmosphere surely proven a large task for our wonderful community consultees but they have provided. With the group choosing to commission 4 incredible opportunities across the town, we proudly present Culture Warrington’s Place Partnership programme for Warrington Pride 2024 with a colourful, community led, and responsive offer.
Place to Pause – Conversation Space (Chester Uni – 8th June 2024 – 10:00-3:30pm) – a quieter place to really get those thoughts wondering. With stimulating creative activities, displayed consultation feedback, and a bundle of opportunties to discuss your thoughts, as a group or as an individual, this is a welcoming, friendly and safe space to take that much needed deep breath.
I put my love in your hands by Rachael Pirie (Chester Uni – 8th June 2024 – 10:00-3:30pm) – An audio walking tour about identity, sexuality and what it means to hold hands with a stranger. The performance debuted earlier this year in Lancaster and is now coming to Warrington, featuring all new voices and participants from the Warrington queer community! On the day of Warrington Pride, people will have the chance to receive their headphones and player to dive into the world of hand holding or if that isn’t for you, then a QR code will be available to listen to when you wish. Just dont forget your headphone and phone with internet access.
Warrington Pride Banner (Time Square – 8th June 2024 – 11:30am) – Proudly leading the way, you said it was important that our town raises the profile of the Warrington Pride Parade and make it something to visually remember. In collaboration with Warrington Pride Group members, local LGBTQ+ people and artist Tara Collette, this year will be the first to feature our Warrington Pride Banner. Held up with pride by community members who steered the way for our offer here at Culture Warrington. Join us at Time Square 11:30am.
Chicken – Soup Productions – (Pyramid Arts Centre – 11th & 12th June 2024 – 7:00pm) – An intimate original piece of Warrington Theatre. Chicken, with a cast of two, explores the themes, discussions and social attitudes to LGBTQ+ life across two different generations. Daniel, who has lived through the decriminalisation of homosexuality and the HIV/AIDs epidemic, meets Craig, a young, vibrant, gay man living in a more open society. Through their professional relationship Craig is encouraged to think about the dangers of modern-day troll culture while Daniel tries to hold on to events of the past with resistance and gritted teeth.
Join us for this exploration of love, culture and local LGBTQ+ life in this 1 Act Play introduced by a series of monologues performed by local actors exploring identity, sexuality and allyship.
