Edo’s Floating World Exhibition

Edo’s Floating World at Warrington Museum invites visitors to explore Japan’s vibrant Tokugawa-era culture through a rare display of Japanese woodblock theatre prints. The exhibition showcases Ukiyo-e, or ‘pictures of the floating world,’ alongside the Kabuki theatre that captivated audiences in Edo (modern Tokyo) during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Curated by Mya O’Leary, a volunteer at the museum, the exhibition features 16 carefully selected prints, offering a glimpse into this influential art form that shaped Western artists like Monet and Van Gogh. The exhibition highlights renowned printmakers such as Utagawa Kunisada and Toyohara Kunichika, alongside iconic works by Katsushika Hokusai.

The exhibition is open now and free to view.
