John Bevan: Team Player – From Lions to League

To mark Warrington Wolves’ 150th anniversary celebrations, a new theatre production telling the remarkable story of club legend John Bevan will premiere at the Halliwell Jones Stadium this July.

John Bevan: Team Player – From Lions to League is a new solo play by acclaimed writer Mari Lloyd, charting three pivotal years in the life of one of rugby’s most celebrated figures. The production follows Bevan from the historic 1971 British Lions tour of New Zealand through to his move north to Warrington and the club’s memorable 1974 Challenge Cup campaign.

Performed by Welsh actor Scott Gutteridge and presented by Still Here Productions, the play offers a unique blend of sport, history and community heritage, exploring themes of identity, success and belonging.

The production will be staged in The Platinum Lounge at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on 8 and 9 July, coinciding with the club’s milestone anniversary year.

As part of its ongoing heritage programme, Warrington Wolves Community Foundation has supported the development of the project, helping to preserve and share the stories that have shaped the club and the town.
