Warrington’s much-loved Christmas Lights Switch-On is back, bigger and brighter than ever. After six years away, families and visitors can gather on Saturday, November 15th from 6pm to 7pm in Golden Square to see the town centre sparkle with dazzling new lights and Christmas trees.
CBBC’s Hacker the Dog will join Santa for the countdown, and six live performances will bring songs from Wicked, Matilda, Mamma Mia, The Greatest Showman, and The Lion King to the stage, finishing with a festive Santa-oke singalong.
The festive fun spreads across the town centre all weekend. From Friday 14th, Costello’s will be serving mulled wine, mince pies, and live music, making it the perfect spot to start the Christmas weekend.
On Saturday 15th, the winter walkabouts “Icy Days” bring the squares to life. In Time Square the Polar Bear appears at 11.30am and 2.30pm, with the Snow Queen and King at 1.30pm. In Golden Square the Snow Queen and King appear at 11.30am, the Polar Bear at 1pm, and the Snow Queen and King again at 3pm.
On Sunday 16th, the mischievous Grinch and friends take over. In Time Square Cindy Lou and Whoo appear at 11.30am and 2.30pm, with the Grinch at 1.30pm. In Golden Square the Grinch pops up at 11.30am and 3pm, with Cindy Lou and Whoo at 1pm.
The funfair is open all weekend on Saturday from 10am to 7pm and on Sunday from 11am to 5pm with rides and games for all ages. The Independent Street Markets feature over 70 stalls with art, craft, food, drinks, and vintage treasures across Horsemarket Street, Market Gate, Buttermarket Street, Bridge Street, and Dolmans Lane. It’s the perfect place for Christmas gifts, festive treats, or just soaking up the atmosphere.
Families can also join Lush’s Penguin Bath Bomb Workshops at 1pm on both Saturday and Sunday in Golden Square.
