We are unbelievably excited to announce that the inspiring sculpture of the Earth is coming to Warrington! Luke Jerram’s three-dimensional artwork, Gaia, will be at the Parr Hall between Sunday 6 to Thursday 10 March.
The magnificent artwork, which measures seven metres in diameter, represents the Earth’s surface as seen from orbit using comprehensive NASA photos. Culture Warrington is working with the artist again after visiting the Parr Hall in October 2019 with his highly successful ‘Museum of the Moon,’ which has been seen by over three million people in 25 countries. Unlike the moon, which we’ve been looking at for millennia, the first-time humans saw Earth as a blue marble floating in orbit was in 1968, when NASA launched the Apollo 8 mission. of the Moon,’ which has been seen by over three million people in 25 countries. A surround sound composition by BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones will add to the atmosphere of the thought-provoking project. Gaia, the personification of the Earth in Greek mythology, inspired the sculpture’s name. Visitors will experience what astronauts do as they stare at the globe with a new and profound awareness of all life’s interdependence.
If you’re planning a visit to see this masterpiece, then remember to book your tickets. On Sunday 6th March Independent Street Markets and Bold Street House will be providing a sustainable market and street food based in Queens Gardens. There is also our lovely shopping centre, indoor market and plenty of local cafes, bars and restaurants very close by.
