Warrington’s Lunar New Year Celebrations Return for 2025

Warrington’s Lunar New Year celebrations will return on Saturday, February 8th and Sunday, February 9th, bringing culture, colour and entertainment to the town centre.

Marking the Year of the Snake, this exciting event has quickly become a standout in Warrington’s annual calendar, offering a weekend packed with performances, workshops and activities suitable for all ages.

Building on the success of previous years, this year’s programme will feature a blend of traditional and modern performances. Liverpool’s Hung Gar Kung Fu School will present their iconic lion and dragon dance alongside a high-energy martial arts demonstration.

Visitors will enjoy live music, K-Pop dance displays and an unforgettable performance from Movema Dance Company, showcasing the Feng Huang bird. Activities such as calligraphy workshops, face painting, QiGong sessions and arts and crafts will take place at key locations across Golden Square, Time Square, Warrington Market, Warrington Museum and Art Gallery and Central Library.

On Saturday, both the Warrington Museum and Art Gallery and Central Library will host a family activity day from 11am to 2pm, offering crafts, trails and refreshments in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

Councillor Tony Higgins from Warrington Borough Council said: “The Lunar New Year celebrations offer a fantastic opportunity for Warrington to come together and celebrate this cultural tradition. It’s amazing to see the event growing year on year, and we are proud to collaborate with our partners to bring it to life for the local community and visitors alike.”

The celebrations continue to expand, uniting residents, families and visitors to share in the traditions and experiences that make Lunar New Year such a unique cultural event. From live performances to family-friendly workshops, the festival offers a warm space for people of all ages to come together and enjoy something new.

It is free to attend and will be delivered through a partnership between Warrington Borough Council, Warrington BID, Golden Square Shopping Centre and Warrington Market.

Amy Dawber, Project Manager for Warrington BID, added: “Lunar New Year has become an integral part of Warrington’s cultural calendar, offering something for everyone and celebrating the town’s diversity. We’re excited to continue building on the success of last year’s event and look forward to welcoming visitors for another weekend of culture and connection.”

Supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the festival aims to unite communities, celebrating Warrington’s growing cultural diversity while providing an opportunity for both residents and visitors to experience the rich traditions of Lunar New Year.
