The month-long celebration launched with a bang on the 7th of August, with more events designed for families popping up around the town, including a programme of global music, dance, storytelling and craft activities.
Cultural extravaganza, the ‘Welcome Back Festival’, is running until September with special events springing up across the town centre to welcome people back into the heart of the town.
The fun isn’t over just yet! We want to end the Summer celebrations in style, we’ve got one more day of fun lined up this weekend on Saturday. There will be more to come from the Welcome Back Festival in September and October so watch this space!
Here’s what you can expect on Saturday 28 August:
At 11 am there’s going to be fantastical giant birds with their stunning fanned tails entertaining people in Warrington. They will be accompanied by Major Apus, the avid bird watcher and wildlife enthusiast! Animated by sound effects reminiscent of a rare species from the tropical rainforest, this act is going to be a real treat for children and families.
There will also be stunning stilt walking butterflies and not forgetting Coco Stilts! These flamboyant stilt creatures are going to do a meet and greet and walkabout of our town centre. They will add a colourful touch of the carnivalesque to Warrington and provide a fun family-friendly experience for the kids to enjoy!
Don’t forget, ‘Twisted’ digital maps are also situated throughout Time Square. Treasure hunters can follow the treasure hunt style adventure at any time during the festival, whatever the weather. Simply scan the QR codes on the posters at Time Square to hunt for magical objects, unlock passwords, and follow the digital map which transforms the town centre into a fantasy realm.
